Father Than Vu

Pastor
A native of Saigon, Vietnam, Fr. Than came to the United States in 1975 and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Baton Rouge in 1984. Fr. Than first served at Christ the King’s as parochial vicar from 1989 until 1993 and has been pastor since 2000. Fr. Than is also Vicar General of the diocese and thus divides his time between the parish and the chancery. With two parochial vicars and a good staff, people often wonder what Fr. Than does with his time! Though a workaholic, he likes to travel, go to movies (except sci-fi and horror), read anything (even cereal boxes), and hang out with friends and family – it’s his wish list, but he doesn’t really get to do them often. Having been formed by the Benedictines, drilled by the Jesuits, and moved by his sabbatical experience in the Middle East, Fr. Than has a special interest in liturgy, spiritual theology, and scripture. His favorite professor was Fr. Reginald Foster, the “Pope’s Latinist, from whom he managed to learn one word: Fiat!
